Reports of Ships’ Arrivals with Lists of Passengers

Contains the name of vessel, date of arrival, last port and date of sailing, state of health, name of ship’s master, owner, gross and net tonnage, port of registration, number of crew, number and names of cabin and steerage passengers, nature of cargo, time when boarded by pilot, bearings and distance of Derwent lighthouse when pilot boarded, wind strength and direction, weather, pilot’s name, agent, draught forward and aft and details of any explosives on board. The signature of the Harbour Master was required at the foot of the one-page report. However, any one report may omit some of this information. For example, passengers may only be listed by number on board. These records are part of the holdings of the Tasmanian Archives
