Register of Admissions and Discharges Launceston Benevolent Asylum 1898-1915

This register lists admissions and discharges of male and female inmates. Males are recorded in black ink and the females in red. The arrangement is chronological with admissions on the left-hand page of the register and discharges for the same period on the right-hand side. The information recorded includes: name, age, civil condition (free by servitude, free certificate, free), education (read, read and write, nothing), religion, ship to colony and place of birth. In addition, on the discharge page, the place from which the inmate was admitted and remarks are recorded (usually the place/person to which they were discharged). The register also recorded statistical information and appended to the end is a final statistical report to the Chief Secretary concluding with the institution’s closure on 24 June 1912. These records are part of the holdings of the Tasmanian Archives
