List of (primarily ex) convicts who departed Hobart as a sailor/crew member between July 1823 and April 1828. It is not necessarily a complete list but does serve as an example of the mobility of convicts in the early 1820s. Many of our convicts served as crewmen on whaling or sealing ships for a season or as sailors on government ships on coastal trading vessels (other positions available included steward, cook, sailmaker, ropemaker etc). Some remained in the industry for years though most served only for a short time.
