The list was published in the Melbourne Times in 1843. Unclaimed mail was held at the Melbourne Post Office for a month, then lists such as this were advertised in the Victorian Government Gazette/newspapers. Any letters which remained unclaimed for a further six months were then destroyed. Probably a lot of the mail was actually collected once the addressees knew there was some waiting for them.
