Ward of the State Registers (Children’s Registers) Beginning 1864

This series consists of volumes which registered and recorded summary information about children admitted to the care of the State, also known as Wards of the State from 1864 to 1966.

The Ward Register was initially made up of large leather bound volumes which recorded double-page entries for each ward including the following information:
– Ward Number
– Name
– Sex
– Date of Birth
– Native place
– Religion
– Ability to Read or Write
– Date of Commitment
– Commiting Bench
– Date of Admission
– Term
– Cause of Commitment
– Whether Parents are living
– Vaccination details
– Previous history
– Where stationed
– Licensing out details
– Discharge details
– Half yearly report information.
