Correspondence of the Sheriff’s Office (and successors) 1900-1907

The Sheriff’s Office later became the Prisons Department, and eventually the Department for Correctional Services. The indexes are arranged by year and then alphabetically by subject/author of the letter, and contain the: subject index term, description of the contents of the file, and date of the letter and its file number. This series covers a range of administrative matters handled by the Sheriff or the administrator of gaols and prisons, including some employee matters. Very few files exist between 1867 and 1881.
