The 105-ton schooner JOHN PIRIE was under the command of Captain George Martin when she arrived in Nepean Bay, Kangaroo Island on 16 August 1836. She had sailed from London and was said to have left England on 1 March 1836, travelling via Mauritius. The vessel was in the service of the South Australian Company and all of her passengers worked for the company. With a crew of ten, the total complement on board amounted to 24 souls.
