The 360 ton TAM O’SHANTER was privately chartered and commanded by Captain Whiteman Freeman. (Another source said she was 383 tons). She sailed from London on 20 July 1836 and arrived at Kingscote, Kangaroo Island, on 20 November 1836. She then proceeded to Holdfast Bay (Port Adelaide) and tried to enter the Port River, only to run aground on a sandbar. Four days later she was refloated and moved up to her landing place. Fifty-nine passengers are listed below.
