For the purposes of this study, Western New South Wales is that area to the west of a line drawn from Brewarrina down to Balranald; the major towns include Balranald, Bourke, Brewarrina, Broken Hill, Cobar, Hay, Nyngan, Walgett, Wentworth and Wilcannia.
