These references are advertisements placed in the Argus to communicate information to family and friends who for the main had arrived in Australia, though some references are for people leaving from Australia or about relatives overseas. They usually detail where a person had come from and often by what ship and the references can also hold information on occupations, and or family and friends and residence last known at in Victoria or elsewhere in Australia, or may contain information to state that family members had arrived.
