Winchelsea & District Historical Society Inc.

Winchelsea and District Historical Society was established in 1981, for the preservation of local history. The Society is a non-profit organization staffed by volunteers whose aim is to research and preserve the history of the area.

Research facilities include:

  • Microfiche covering Geelong and surrounding cemeteries.
  • Early Shipping.
  • B.D.M. Pioneer Index.
  • Microfilm of early Barrabool and Winchelsea Rate Books.
  • Winchelsea and surrounding area Cemetery records.
  • Baptism registers.
  • Family histories.
  • Marjorie Lawrence collection and audio tapes.

Books include: History of the Shire. School Centenary. Deans Marsh story. They also have Parish Plans for Winchelsea Shire and Aboriginal artifacts.

The Society’s rooms, in the former Shire Office, are open every Wednesday afternoon 1:30 – 5:00 pm.
