Warrnambool Family History Group Inc.

Description

The Warrnambool Family History Group was previously the trading name of the Warrnambool Area of The Australian Institute of Genealogical Studies Inc. and was formed in August 1980. The Group achieved Incorporation in its own right on 26 October 2011.

The basic purpose of the Group is to foster the study of Family History in Warrnambool and District by conducting a varied range of activities in which members and the public may participate.

The Warrnambool Family History Group Inc. has a major collection of local records dealing with Warrnambool and the surrounding district collected over some 20 years of operation including:

  • Local Indexes of Businessmen, Office Bearers, Doctors, Lawyers etc.
  • Cemetery Records,
  • Funeral Directors Records,
  • Memorial Inscriptions,
  • Birth, Death and Marriage Records,
  • Obituaries and Inquests,
  • Church Records,
  • Honour Boards and Memorials,
  • Old Warrnambool Shire Records,
  • An index card file containing in excess of 20,000 cards,
  • Old Warrnambool newspapers,
  • A newspaper cuttings file

The Group maintains and staffs a Reference Library at HeritageWorks, Gilles Street, Warrnambool which provides a range of resources for Australian and overseas research and collects and indexes local Family History material for the use of members and the public.

HeritageWorks is staffed by volunteers who have an interest in, and expertise with, local, National and International research tools.

Normal Opening hours for HeritageWorks are:
Monday to Friday 10.00 am – 12 noon and 1.30 pm – 3.30 pm.
Weekends and other times, by appointment.
