Description

Abbotsleigh is an an Anglican day and boarding school catering for girls from Pre Kindergarten to Year 12. It opened in 1885 and became an Anglican school in 1924.

The Abbotsleigh Archives opened in 1986. The name changed to the Thurles Thomas Archives in 2004 in honour of the Abbotsleigh Old Girl who was instrumental in the formation of their archival collection.

The Abbotsleigh Archives is dedicated to collecting, processing and preserving items that are relevant to the history of the School. These include:

  • Student records
  • School records
  • College Council minutes and records
  • Memorabilia
  • Artefacts

As well as recording and storing authentic documentation of the School’s activities, the Archives aims to preserve the memories of life at Abbotsleigh.

The Archives maintains non-current records, memorabilia and artefacts in a stable, secure environment, and the collection includes photographs, video footage, student work, textiles, student records and documents, maps, books, letters and more.

The Abbotsleigh Archives welcomes enquiries from Old Girls and families of Old Girls.

Abbotsleigh Archives is open Monday, Wednesday and Friday 8am-4pm throughout the year, including term breaks.  Closed for the Christmas school holidays.

Access to Abbotsleigh Archives is by appointment only, with advance notice stating the purpose of the research. Access to records not normally available for research can be gained by authorisation from the School Council.
