Tasmanian Family History Society Inc. – Hobart Branch

Description

Formed as the Genealogical Society of Tasmanian in 1980, the Tasmanian Family History Society Inc. now has five branches, of which Hobart is the largest. It exists to promote and support the study and research of family history, to preserve and transcribe records, to publish appropriate literature and to provide members with a high-quality reference library and learning opportunities. The Hobart Branch is emerging as a local leader in integrating DNA matching into family history research.

A unique and extensive library includes a wide range of fully catalogued printed matter, micro-form and CD-ROM records and a range of research tools. Many of their records are not available on the internet, some are exclusive. The emphasis is on Australian, New Zealand and UK records.

Their library provides a convenient venue for researchers with volunteer members who are always willing to help and houses a huge number and variety of paper, book, microfiche, film and computer-based resources.
