Description

The QVMAG History collection represents both Tasmania’s place in Australia and the world and brings the world to Tasmania.

The collection represents collecting activities from 1842 to the present day. It is diverse, and ranges across many collecting areas, from photographs to personal items, archaeology, comparative cultural collections and large industrial technology. Some iconic items include the Australasian League flag, the first flag to feature the southern cross in its natural formation, their 1923 Alfa Romeo RLS Sport motor car, owned by Launceston businessman, Gordon Fysh.

The Community History Series (CHS) collections of QVMAG include records of local government, businesses, community organisations and individuals, as well as oral history tapes and a large photographic collection.

The CHS collection guides are finding aids that provide information about the creation, historical context, arrangement, and content of the archival and manuscript collections. Readers are requested to consult the guides before placing item requests with staff at the QVMAG History Centre.
