The aim of the Port Stephens Family History Society Inc. is to offer genealogy, local history and heritage research facilities to members, visitors and the wider community.
Their Research Centre was established at the Lemon Tree Passage Old School Centre in February 1986 and the society has been gathering and preserving historical records since its inception.
Their spacious facility is air-conditioned and well equipped with an extensive resource library, CD Rom collection, internet computers, family history files, local historical collection, interstate and overseas collections, map and photograph collections. There is a separate room for microfiche/ film reading and also a kitchenette with adjoining refreshment room.
Whether you are a seasoned genealogist, amateur detective or just a beginner, their society has researchers on hand to assist and guide you through your ancestral journey.
The Society’s Research Centre is open to the public between 10.00 am – 1.00 pm every Thursday and 2nd & 4th Saturday afternoons 1.00 pm – 4.00 pm (by appointment only and except public holiday weekends). Visitors are most welcome. A small charge of $5 applies. If you require additional one-on-one assistance with research, a $10 fee applies.
