The Society was founded in 1963 and for over 50 years, the Society has worked with the local community and other organisations within Moyne Shire to preserve and promote their history and heritage. The Society is affiliated with the Royal Historical Society of Victoria and the Western Victorian Association of Historical Societies.

The Port Fairy Historical Society has a very active archival service and genealogical information can be researched on your behalf by application. The research service is available for tracing family, business or for general information. The Society holds extensive archives for this purpose and their volunteer researchers are experienced in the field.

Researchers are available by appointment. Due to the nature of their collection and archives, self-research is not possible.
