Parramatta & District Historical Society
Description
The Parramatta & District Historical Society Inc. was formed in 1913 and is New South Wales’ second oldest historical society, being preceded by the Royal Australian Historical Society, found in 1901. It is the oldest local historical society in Australia.
The Society’s main objectives are to
- encourage the study of history & heritage of both Parramatta district and Australia
- promote the compilation of authentic records relating to the Parramatta district and Australia
- acquire and preserve for the use of the Society any books, manuscripts, newspapers, prints, pictures, slides, costumes, relics and all such objects and materials having a bearing on Parramatta and Australian history
- arrange relevant guest speakers, tours, displays & exhibitions related to the history of Parramatta & Australia
- publish and circulate journals, periodicals & books related to the history of Parramatta & Australia
The Family History Group promotes family history research, especially for families residing or previously residing in Parramatta.
The Family History Group normally meets at Hambledon Cottage Coach House on the 1st Saturday of the month (excluding January), commencing at 1.30 pm. Visitors are welcome.
