Nepean Historical Society
Description
The Nepean Historical Society was formed in March 1965. The purpose of the association is to promote in the general community knowledge of, and enthusiasm for, the historical, cultural and environmental heritage of the Nepean Peninsula west of Canterbury Jetty Road, Blairgowrie.
The Society’s Archives Collection includes photographs, documents, newspapers, oral history tapes and a library. It covers material mainly relevant to the southern Mornington Peninsula, including:
- family histories
- local buildings
- exploration
- defence
- Victoria’s First Official Settlement (1803)
- fortifications
- shipping
- the Quarantine Station.
Research can be undertaken by simply coming in to The Sorrento Museum and viewing the many publicly accessible parts of the collection.
Alternatively, the Society can help you with research by, or with the assistance of their wonderful part-time archivists.
All of their Researchers are volunteers so a donation to The Society would be most appreciated.
