Methodist Ladies’ College Archives, Melbourne
Description
MLC was founded in 1882 as a ‘modern school of the first order’ with buildings that formed ‘a collegiate institution for girls unsurpassed in the colonies’. The goal of MLC’s founders, the Wesleyan Methodists, was to provide a ‘high-class Christian education for girls’, comparable with that provided elsewhere for boys at the time.
Although MLC was Australia’s first girls’ school to be founded by the Wesleyan Methodists, those of all faiths and cultural backgrounds have always been welcomed.
MLC hold records relating to the development, history and activities of the College and Old Collegian memorabilia, for example:
- School magazines, 1885- present
- Student enrolment records, 1882- present
- College prospectuses, 1882- present
- College Council minutes, 1882- present
- School memorabilia and photographs, 1882- present
Open by appointment only.
One week’s advance notice of visit required. Past staff/student research service for a fee.
