The Melbourne Grammar School Archives contains a unique collection of items that trace the history of the School from when it opened on the 7th April 1858 to the thriving community it is today.

Archived items are stored in a purpose-built facility at their St Kilda Road campus.

They present some of these items in their Archives Gallery, generally in a thematic manner. These displays often depict some of the most significant events in the life of the School over the past 160+ years. Visitors are welcome but only with an appointment.

Researchers are welcome to access the on-site archive, which contains an expanding collection of items that trace the history of the school. These include:

• Photographic archives: House photos, sporting photos, Prefect group photos and records of special events from across the School’s history can be accessed here.
• Notables database: 150 biographies of Old Melburnians, documented as part of the Schools Sesquicentenary in 2008 can be accessed here.
• Old Melburnians War Services Database: A collection of biographical information on Old Melburnians who served during the First World War, includes links for further research, can be accessed here. Contact the Archives if you would like to contribute information to this database about an Old Melburnian or a family member who served.

Visitors are welcome to make an appointment to view the displays. They also encourage those with materials that could contribute to their collection, such as documents or memorabilia, to contact us.

Melbourne Grammar School Archives also welcome enquiries from those researching the extensive history of the School.
