The Mackay Branch of the Genealogical Society of QLD was formed at a meeting in the CWA Hall, Gordon Street on 22 April 1981.

Over the years, MFHS has accumulated an extensive collection of genealogical resources as well as the equipment to access those resources. The collection is updated on a regular basis, either through donations of family histories or through purchases and subscriptions to the latest in genealogy.
