Local History Resources – Find local history information including images, maps and plans, newspapers, books, films and oral histories about the people, places and events of Liverpool – past and present.
Family History Centre – The Family History Centre opened in August 2009 and has been a successful initiative of Liverpool City Library and Museum Services.
The Centre features a collection of specialised family history resources, both local and overseas, in a variety of formats including electronic, microform and print.
The many resources available for family researchers include:
- Birth, Death and Marriage Records
- Immigration and Shipping Register
- Convict Registers and Musters
- Early Electoral Rolls and Census
- Cemetery Registers
- Overseas Records such as English and US Census Records
Liverpool City Library also provides free access to a wide range of databases at the Centre.
Currently, you will need to join the library before you visit the Family History Centre. A Liverpool Library card is required to access the centre’s computers, databases and printing.
You can join the library online or at any Liverpool Library branch.
Liverpool City Library is a Family Search Affiliate Library. It provides access to the vast Family Search resources, via the Family History Centre’s computers.

The Family History Centre also houses the Liverpool Genealogy Society Inc. The Society provides volunteers from Tuesday to Saturday to assist customers with their family history research.
Liverpool & District Family History Society Inc. was formed in 1987 and incorporated in 1989. In 2003 the Society changed its name to the Liverpool Genealogy Society Inc.
The Liverpool Genealogy Society Inc. has an interest in preserving, promoting and providing access to a wide range of family history resources. Located within the Liverpool Regional Family History Centre, the society works in partnership with Liverpool City Council to provide a first-class family history service.
The members of the Liverpool Genealogy Society Inc. volunteer, by providing assistance and encouragement to all visitors to the Liverpool Regional Family History Centre.
