The inaugural meeting of the Lake Macquarie Family History Group was held on 21 April 1999.

Their aims & goals are to:

• Promote the study of family history and local history.
• Encourage the recording and preservation of family and local history.
• Provide facilities to assist and benefit members research.
• Publish journals, newsletters and other publications to assist members.
• Promote public access to Government records of interest and importance to family and local historians.

The Group has limited capabilities for carrying out research for non-members.
