Historical Society of Mareeba

Description

The Historical Society of Mareebabegan began on 28th July 1993. They are a not-for-profit, self-funded autonomous organisation.  Their members work hard to raise monies so we can continue to conserve and preserve the paper history of this area.

The Society holds regular events and field trips which are hosted by the society plus they also set up displays to provide information and allow members and non-members to experience what life in Mareeba Shire’s past was like for its locals.

The Society holds excellent resource for researchers and family historians at their Research Centre.

Their holdings include lists of burials, monument inscriptions and cemetery lists for most of the 38 cemeteries; a large image collection; a map and plans collection; plus an extensive library and archive which includes published works on Mareeba’s history.  As well as images, objects and archives which describe the social, economic, industrial and agricultural history of the area.

See the Society’s ‘Resource’ page for more information on their holdings.

The Library is open Monday & Tuesday 9 am to 1 pm; Wednesday 9 am to 3 pm; Second Saturday of month 10 am -12 noon.
