Heidelberg Historical Society Inc. is a varied group of people with a shared interest in understanding and preserving the history of Heidelberg and surrounding suburbs. This includes helping to provide a place for the accumulation of objects and documents that add to the district’s story.

The Society’s coverage is generally limited to the boundaries of the District of Heidelberg, Shire of Heidelberg, City of Heidelberg or the City of Banyule, as they were established from time to time. This covers the modern-day suburbs of Ivanhoe, Heidelberg, Rosanna, Greensborough, Viewbank, Macleod, Eaglemont and surrounding areas. Historically, it included from as far north as Hurstbridge to as far south-west as Fairfield.
