Gympie Family History Society was founded in 1980 and has grown from a small group of members meeting to help each other to do research, to a well-equipped Society with their own rooms and a large library of reference materials and research facilities. The Society enjoys a good working relationship with the Gympie Library’s Local History section and is supported by the Gympie Regional Council.

The Society maintains links with other genealogical and family history groups, and reciprocal rights are enjoyed with a number of genealogical societies, whose members may visit and conduct research.

Some minor restrictions may apply.

Projects undertaken by the Society involve members conducting research for the purpose of collating and collecting local knowledge for the long term maintenance of their rich history. This information is then produced in book and CD format and sold.
