Glen Innes & District Historical Society

Description

With more than 63,000 photographs, as well as maps, books and over 300,000 records cross-referenced to Glen Innes Examiner newspaper articles, Government Gazettes etc. The Glen Innes & District Historical Society Research Centre is a valuable resource for those people compiling family and local histories. The Society can help you track your individual or family history within the district back to the 1800s.

To access their archived resources, it is easiest if people can come to the Museum and help with the research. For this, an appointment is preferred. If possible please bring a USB stick, digital camera, and copies of your own research – The Society are always keen to increase or correct the information we hold.

If you cannot travel to Glen Innes, please complete a Research Request Form.

Once they have received your request, they will reply to let you know if they have any relevant information in the system and how much it will cost to extract it. Upon payment they will firstly forward copies of the relevant index card(s) for people to peruse and decide if they would like copies of any of the records recorded on the card(s). If so, they will extract the recorded information and forward it either in hard copy form, email or on USB.

The Museum’s extensive card file resource is being gradually digitised. Their 63,000+ photos and 300,000+ records tell the stories of the region, Australia’s colonial past, local families and major world events. Academics and students undertaking research, as well as families keen to learn a bit about their ancestors and this area, have found documents and photos that have filled gaps in their knowledge.
