The East Gippsland Family History Group was formed in 1979 by a small group of people who were passionate about researching their family histories and over the years it has grown into one of the largest regional family history groups in Australia. They are a very well resourced group dedicated to preserving family and local history. This resource is a significant community resource that is accessible to everyone.

The Group has an extensive library with a range of local family histories and books on the history of the Gippsland area. There are Australian history books, how-to books, historic journals, a comprehensive body of overseas records, indexes, parish maps, subdivision plans and cemetery plans. The computers give access to more than 680 CDs, DVDs, compiled records, indexes and research assets. They also maintain subscriptions to relevant research web sites worldwide. The Group holds a collection of tens of thousands of microfiche and a large collection of microfilm.
