Cohuna and District Historical Society Inc.
Description
The Cohuna and District Historical Societywas formed in April 1970. In 1982 the Cohuna Historical Society Co-operative was formed. It purchased the Scots Church and Hall (following the formation of the Uniting Church) to display and store the extensive collection of exhibits, photographs and records. The Cohuna Historical Centre was officially opened on 17 November 1984. The Co-operative was dissolved in 1991.
There are three main parts to the Cohuna and District Historical Society:
- Archives Centre (the brick building)
- Museum (the old Scots Church)
- Trash and Treasure (the old Scots Hall).
The Archives Centre holds:
- library
- research and records
- local newspapers (bound copies from 1957)
- microfilm of newspapers (Kerang, 1882-1913 and Cohuna, 1913 onwards)
- a photographic collection of people and places
- cemetery records for a wide area
- family and district history.
The Archive and Photographic Collections are now housed in the purpose-built Archives Building (adjacent to the Old Church Building), which opened in 1992.
The Old Church Building has become the Museum for exhibits and special displays.
Archives Centre: Open Friday, 10 am-3 pm or by appointment.
Museum: Open Monday, 10 am-2 pm; Friday, 10 am-3 pm or by appointment.

The Society welcomes personal visits to view their extensive collection. Family and local history research can be arranged (for a small fee) or you may prefer to do your own.
