Anglican Diocese of Brisbane, Records and Archives Centre

Description

The Records and Archives Centre was established in 1979 as the official repository of the records of the Anglican Church within the Diocese of Brisbane.

The Centre launched its new website in early 2021 which includes indexes and also information to assist First Nation families and researchers of Children’s Homes records.

The Anglican Records and Archives Centre has a wide-ranging collection of registers, minute books, correspondence, published magazines and year books, building plans, photographs, and other historical documents and memorabilia. This broad selection of church and social history provides a wealth of information for the professional researcher or amateur historian. Amongst its holdings, the website includes indexes for:

  • Marriages for the Diocese (1843-1910)
  • Early Baptisms for Gayndah and the Burnett (1860-1894)
  • Baptisms, Marriages and Funerals – Bush Brothers (1905–1960)

Access to the records for research purposes is by appointment only. Due to Government and Church regulation, certain registers are closed for varying periods and research within these closed registers may be carried out only by staff.

Open Hours: Arnott Reading Room Open Monday to Wednesday 9 am–4 pm by appointment only, and Friday 9 am–2 pm by appointment only.

For further information about access and fees, please contact the Archives using the online enquiry form on their website or via email.
