Source citation is important when conducting genealogical research as it helps to document, organise and analyse the evidence gathered. Citations tell your family or reader how and where to find the same sources. Ideally every event on a family group sheet would have one or more source citations.
Author. Who wrote it? Record the author’s name or name of the organisation ie. NSW Registry of Births, Deaths and Marraiges
Title. What is it called? ie Birth Certificate
Date. When was it created? * Date, Year or timeframe of creation
Where it can be found. ie. NSW Registry of BDM
Registration Number. If applicable record the registration or record number.
Page Number. If the source has page numbers, record where you found the particular piece of information.
